Re: New Propeller Xr Vs Standart ss Bravo 3

When up grading from the standard Bravo 3 to the lab finished bravo 3 XR from Mercury Racing, it is required to select one inch LESS pitch in order to match rpm. The reason is that the XR has a more aggressive cupping of the blades compared to the standard set. :)

Except to gain 3-5 mph at cruising speeds, as well as more aggressive acceleration.

What would the XR's, or for that matter the standard 4/3 blade Bravo III's, do for the top end?

+/- ? mph

Hi, Centaur in my opinion I am not sure, I think my boat will have best acceleration, intermediate, but you lose some top speed, in my case my top speed now is 48 miles, I think we will lost around 2 or 3 miles, but the most importantly save fuel.. Please It is another opinion?????

Expect to gain a little (1-2mph) top speed as well, according to the prop wizards at Mercury Racing.

You generally always experience a gain in the mid range. The top speed issue depends on the boat. Mercury Racing says to expect a slight gain in top speed, but that's not really the the purpose of up grading. Even if you experience no gain in top speed, you will always see a benefit in stronger acceleration and mid range performance.

Re: New Propeller Xr Vs Standart ss Bravo 3

Thanks again for your input.

I've had a look on the Mercury Racing webiste and it says, "This robust set of counter rotating, stainless steel propellers was designed for use on big boats with big power". However, it goes on to say, "Recommended for 260-350 H.P. diesel and 260-525 H.P. gasoline engines" - not exactly 'big power' at the lower end of the scale???

Would I be better off with the XR's or the standard Bravo III 4x3's? I'm quite tempted by the XR's if they'll improve my all around performance.
