If I was looking for a good all around aluminum prop for a 16' Carolina Skiff (J16CC) and a 4 stroke, 40 HP Yamaha outboard, what diameter and pitch would be appropriate? The boat is mostly used for flats fishing. Thanks!

Please read the stickies at the top of ther page and the helps on the prop store page. What is the present prop size?(usually on the barrel or under the prop nut)
what is the present max. rpm and speed? What is the rated rpm?

This is a new install and we don't have an old prop to refer to. Based on what I can find on the web, max RPM for this engine is 6,000 RPM.

There are a few guys here with programs that can help figure a prop for a specific application.
If its a new install I would think that the outboard dealer could get you started with a prop and allow a different selection based on the results.
Many dealers selling props will let you try props if you intend to buy one.
Prop picker sites a notoriously in accurate do mostly to the many hull configureations. Member hwsiii has an excellent prop selection program but he will need a hole lot more than the rpm and boat model and size.

Thanks for the help....hwsiii, if you are out there what info do you need to run your program?

If you search for posts using his user name hwsiii you will find his questionaire.
You may be able to send him a PM (private message) He has been quiet lately.
Many times he can suggest a prop with detailed expected results.Unusual when dealing with prop selection by formula.Lots of guys here also have a lot of experience with props
and may be able to help with a prop suggestion. They will need the details on your boat,
and motor the more the better.
