I have a 1987 Searay Sorrento - 23', Mercruiser 5.7, Alpha I. The part number on my prop says it's a Quicksilver 1912P17. I've searched Iboats, but with no luck. What does the number tell you? I need a new prop. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Quicksilver 1912P17

Last three are what matter

P17 = 17" pitch

you have a fairly fast hull, that is probably a little slow getting on plane. My generic recomendation would be a TP legacy in the same pitch.

BUT

for anyone to make a good suggestion, more info is needed.

WOT rpm and speed plus what if anything you would like to change/improve with the new prop.

That is a 15X17 Merc prop. Used Quicksilver aluminum propeller on eBay.ca (item 190294695376
This is a used one w/that number on E-Bay
I jumped over and looked at it, the sale has ended, was not a very good looking prop. I have a 14 1/2 17 but don't think it is what you need.

I don't know what WOT rpm's are because the boat is new to me. Haven't opened it up yet because it's listing to the left a little. I'm sure the prop is the problem, but need to make sure I get the right one.

That was one of the few results I got when I searched the part number. It looked a little rough. I think mine is in better shape. Thanks.

Getting the right prop means baselining what you have, so go ahead and open her up one time. Assuming the prop that is on there is "correct" could be a very expensive mistake. Also, if you can, post a couple pics of the prop so we can see it's condition. Don't get hung up on diameter, it is a function of the overall prop design, not a primary factor. Pitch, rake, cupping, number of blads, blade thickness, blade material are all more important.

That is pretty ratty lookin', I would not want to run WOT with that thing, the drive won't really like the vibration.

Do you have a prop exchange dealer in your area? Or perhaps a friend you could borrow a prop from for testing before dropping you cash.

I have that prop and would be willing to sell it to you. It is in near perfect condition.
