I have a 1993 Bayliner Capri 17'6" bowrider with a 1993 Evinrude 88 HP outboard engine. I also have a hydrofoil on the motor (It really helps out of the hole). My question: What pitch prop should I be using? The boat really moves well the way it is, but I'm looking to get every performance advantage that I can. Any takers?

To know where you're at we'd have to know what pitch prop you have and your top speed & rpm with an average load. Then you can calculate the percentage of slip.

The prop pitch on there now is a 19 I believe, but wide open I'm running about 45 MPH with 2 people (about 350 lbs) and about 6000 RPMs.

Ok, that's "about" 17-18% slip or so. Not too good. If we're sure those are the numbers there's definately room for improvement.

Is the current prop in good condition? Aluminum or ss? What brand? What model?

Not sure of the brand. It is an aluminum prop, in great shape. I'm still not sure of the pitch, but I am sure of those other numbers.

If it's an aluminum prop then you could go with the same 19 pitch in ss and get some better efficiency. If you're willing to play with the motor height (X dimension) then you might be able to use a 21.

So switching to a SS prop would make that much of a difference? I'm wary of SS only because they are expensive and where I water ski it is known to have sticks and such in the water.

Sticks in the water will hurt the skiier way more than the prop.

If water skiing is the primary goal then I'd probably stay with the 19 pitch.
