Hello everyone, I'm really hoping you guys can help me out here.

Setup:
97 Stratos 282DC (18'3")
97 Johnson 150 Faststrike
24 Raker II prop
No Jack plate
54mph 5900rpm

As you can tell I have a lot of slip. I lowered the motor 1 hole and was able to keep 54mph and lower RPM to 5500 but when I trimmed up to get 5600 rpm it started chine walking pretty good. My question is what hole should my motor be mounted at? It started out mounted at the highest hole and now that I have lowered it one hole it can be lowered another 2 holes if needed. Would lowering the motor another hole make the chinewalk worse?

Also if anyone with a similar setup could let me know what where there motor is mounted that would be great!

Any help is greatly appreciated

Your WOT range for that engine is 4500 - 5500 rpm. At 5900 it is actually putting out less HP than at 5500.
Is your tach accurate/set correctly?
Is your speed GPS or water pressure speedo?

Something is not adding up 5500 rpm with a 14:26 gears and a 24" prop allowing 15% slip shows a speed of 57mph
You're sure it is a 24 inch pitch?

I lowered the motor one more hole (2nd from the top) and it brought my rpm down to 5100 but also brought my speed down to 51mph. That is still alot pf slip.

The prop is a 24 raker that has not been worked and only used 6 times with no marks or dings.

There is a possibility your tach is not accurate.
Your latest setup does show a slight reduction of slip.

So i raised the motor back up 1 hole and tested with a shop test tach and the results were much better.

5200-5250rpm
55mph
13-14% slip

Which isn't bad, the slip could come down a bit but I can only do so much with my current setup (no jackplate) I would still like to be able to hit 60mph thought so I'm thinking if I get my prop worked that may help but ultimately I believe I will need a 6" jackplate to achieve that.

thoughts?
