Put a 50 HP Force on a 16' Sundance Skiff that came off of a pontoon boat. Give it full throttle and it goes about 5 mph. Sounds like it's in a strain. Does the prop need to be changed?

Welcome aboard!

By "in a strain", do you mean it struggles to gain RPM's, or that it is running at too high of an RPM?

It struggles to gain rpm. It's like it's tied to the dock and you try to take off. Revs up fine out of water with no pressure on it.

Do you know how it ran when on the pontoon? Is it the same prop as when on the pontoon? Do you know what pitch the prop is?

Pontoons are a heavy load for most any engine, and much lower pitch props have to be used. If your engine came right from the pontoon as dressed there then I would expect it take off very well but rev way too high too soon, and the engine would need a different prop.

Maybe, if it is a long shaft on a short shaft transom, but expect it would not be as severe as you described.. You have 3 posts in, can you post some pics of the mounting from the side?

The boat is at the beach which is 100 miles away but we mounted the cavitation plate on the motor flush with the bottom of the boat.
