I am looking for a little input on some ideas I have about redoing my pontoon. I recently purchased a 1989 18 foot Lowe pontoon with a 40 hp Johnson. After getting screwed on the deal and spending a bunch of money on the motor that supposedly "ran great" I will have to wait until winter to start this project.
The carpet is rough in some places so first I'm going to be stripping the entire deck off to replace the floor. What thickness of plywood should i go with?
I would like to use maybe 1/2 inch to save the weight because of my other ideas.
On the front 7 feet of the boat or so I am wanting to build a secondary floor approximately 8 inches higher than the main floor and have doors and plenty of storage and still able to use it to walk on with two pedestal seats up front. Similar to bass boats...if that makes any sense. i will try and post a drawing of what I'm talking about just in case.
Next is replacing the stock console and going with a fiberglass center console that has a livewell on the front of it that will also be a seat.
I also want to replace the fence with one that will go all the way to the back end of the toons because mine doesnt. That way I can hide the ugly gas tank and move the batteries inside. I want to have 2 more pedestal seats at the rear. The captains chair with be a small bench with a live well under it. I'm thinking of having rod storage along each side of the boat and having the rod tips go up into the front floor storage area.
I wish it was a little bigger so that I could keep the rear bench seat and just have a couple pedestal seats behind that but thats not looking possible.
