Changing the orientation of an OMC control

Hey guys I'm trying to mount an OMC side mount control unit on my console. Is there anyway to change it around and it still function properly?

What kind of console?

This is how I mounted mine. Underneath the control is a 2 x 2 channel,which bolts to the console and the side plate.
