I am looking at a 22' Suntracker Fishin Barge and am wondering how fast it should go with a 60 ELPT FourStroke BigFoot and how much faster it would be with a 90 ELPT FourStroke thanks.

I have a 24' Bennington with a 115hp and I am typically at 27 mph. With very clean logs I have gotten 29. I would suspect 18-20mph with a 60 and maybe low 20's with a 90.

I have a 20' Suntracker with the 60 Bigfoot. Go with the 90. If you get the 60,you'll always wish for more.

I have a 2012 18' party barge. I opted the biggest engine the transom would allow, a 75hp 4 stroke. I can run 24 mph with a 13 pitch prop at wide open. I agree with Jeepman, go for the biggest motor you can get, you can always throttle back. The 18 to 20 mph you will get with that 60 hp won't give much of a thrilling tube ride.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the answers, I think I am going with the 90 there is a 100 off deal for that engine right now + the dealer has it in stock so Mercury has a special so I get a full 5 year warranty on it.

For lack of anything better I have taken performance data and sorted it by the weight of the boat.

Performance Data
Bennington/Yamaha

Weight HP MPH
1900 60 19
1711 70 23
2194 70 21
2590 90 25
1660 115 33
2244 115 27
2590 115 28
2270 150 36 *esp
2394 150 41 2 elpt
2799 200 43 *esp
2799 225 46 *esp
2799 225 44 *esp
2799 250 47 *esp
3100 250 45 *esp
3298 250 45 *esp
3298 300 47 *esp

ESP is Bennington's Eliptical set-up, and there is one boat that has 2 eliptical pontoons.

Boy is Silver right. I sold a 70mph blown jet when we bought the pontoon. Takes a while getting used to going 24mph and taking a while to get there. BUT as we age and our sensibilities grow we realize the 'go fast' was just too much engine, too little floor space for the grand kids. They both float, you get wet, kids laugh a lot.

Good choice. You'll be happy with that combination. Should be able to get upper twenties at WOT and maybe a little more. I'm sure you're not overly concerned about speed or you wouldn't be getting a barge, but it's nice to be able to pull the occasional tuber or outrun a storm, and you can cruise with a ninety just as well as a sixty. Welcome aboard, and be sure to throw on some pics of the maiden voyage or we'll talk bad about you.:embarassed:
