I have a 24' pontoon & I have been wanting a trolling motor for emergency back-up & for a little slow trolling. I recently came across a Minn-Kota 70# bow mount trolling motor with a 54" shaft. Comes with a foot pedal & co-pilot remote for $425. Seriously thinking about getting it. How would this work for what I need it for with my 24' toon? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: 70# trolling motor for 24' toon?

We use a Minn-Kota 68# Powerdrive 2 on our 24ft pontoon with a 24v system. Works fine. On a calm day with no wind we can troll at about 1.5 mph for a good three hours. Max speed just for fun is about 4.5 mph but the charge goe's away fast at wot. Additionaly, any wind will greatly effect trolling time. To maintain the 1.5 mph in the face of a 8-10 mph wind will cut trolling time in half. We don't consider this to be a major problem, because when the trolling batteries get low we fire up the gas motor and troll artificial bait at the same time chargeing the trolling motors with a Minn-Kota 3 bank charger getting power from the outboard alternator. Have fun.
