40 HP 4 stroke Mercury won't start

I am a real newbie and have a question. My buddy has a new last year 2017 16 foot Tracker pontoon. He charged the battery before putting the pontoon on the lake and now the motor won't turnover. Lights work, trim works, horn works, but the motor isn't turning over. Nothing. Any suggestions?

Giggle the shifter a bit fwd/rev while holding the key in start to see if its not in neutral

If that's not it check your fuses

Make sure the "overboard switch" that is activated by a lanyard is on (up).

you cleaned the battery terminals and cable ends when the battery was installed, correct?
