Bench seat for my Achillies

I want to build a seat for my 12' Achillies,there is a flandge that runs fore and aft on top of the tube with grommeted holes and i thought i would mak a plank that runs beam to beam and fastenes throught those holes,any thoughts?

A simple plank seat might work if you can secure it properly but make sure you add plenty of protection (such as a thick layer of neoprene) between the wood and the tubes. Without protection, the plank will chafe the hell out of the boat fabric.

To ad to Jon's post, take a router to all the edges and pad the seat area. I don't think there is any way you would catch me sitting on a hard object in my boat. The tubes are the most comfortable spot to sit on.
