Does anybody Know if this exists??? I have the sevylor fishhunter 360... and have bought the SBM18 motor... works great but it would be nice not to lug around such a heavy battery... I bought the boat for transportability and there are many "hard to reach" lakes and reservoirs that we go to.... and getting rid of any kind of excess weight would be good!

Feel sure that someone would have invented this product by now (a 12v lithium battery)... I work at a Golf club and there are loads of electric golf trolleys that use this type of battery (it fits in your pocket and weighs about the same as a bag of sugar!) problem is.... they all seem to be 14 volts...... would these work or is that too much power??

any help would be apreciated,

Thanks

Re: Lithium battery for Sevylor sbm 18 electric motor???

I did a bit of googling and it seems that lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries have the most stable chemistry and yield the best results as SLA substitutes.

However, you should probably check with some experts on how they handle continuous high-current draw, such as a trolling motor, before you take the leap

Here's one vendor:

If you get one, post a report on how it works out.

Re: Lithium battery for Sevylor sbm 18 electric motor???

We use high draw lithium batteries for underwater scooters. They're pretty expensive and much like trolling motors can have a high draw of power.

Here's a website for a high tech lithium battery used in hi tech underwater scooters. The batteries are very expensive!!!! However, they're light, plenty powerful and when you are carrying scooters through jungles, using them off boats, or in cenotes they're great....but these batteries are for a highly specialized application where weight / capacity is everything. However, at the end of the day and for something like an inflatable a SLA, or Marine battery would probably be a better application as there is room on the boat, weight isn't really a huge issue + they're a whole lot cheaper!!!

Re: Lithium battery for Sevylor sbm 18 electric motor???

Thanx for the responses and sorry for my delay...

I live in Spain and its kinda hard to get hold of the batteries that u guys suggest.. allthough thanx for the info ( had no idea that liFE batteries existed...)

However, i can get a lead based 12v battery for 30 euros (bucks) and even though it aint ecological, it only weighs in at 3.5 kg... probably gonna go for that option first... see how it goes,..

I'll keep u posted
