Got an Avon 2.85 inflatable as part of a recent boat purchase. Seems to hold air well. Trying to find out anything about it (manual, inflation pressure, etc). Any help / suggestions appreciated.
Avon builds excellent Hypalon fabric inflatables, is it an air deck, wooden or alum floorboard model, has a rear engine mount or it's a fixed built in transom ? Working pressure, min 3.0, max 3.5 PSI.
Hi Sea Rider,
Thanks for the pressure info. It has a roll-up floorboard, likely aluminum, pointed bow (not the squared-off bow of current models), with a fixed built in wooden transom. I have what appears to be the Avon precursor to the Bravo 10 foot pump. It has the high pressure spring actuated indicator that hasn't tripped yet. Haven't found any documentation on the pump, so concerned about possible over-pressure. Is it worthwhile getting some sort of pressure gauge?
Cheers.
For clarification, post current Bravo pump and air valve pic to have a look. Avon use or used to use propietrary air valves. See if possible to buy a pressure gauge for Avon inflatables if wanting to have all air chambers evenly air topped, check Iboats, Defender for them. Halkey Roberts air valve type pressure gauges won't read on top of an Avon air valve.
Hi Sea Rider...here's photos of the old Avon pump that came with the dinghy (An Avon Roll Away R285 as it turns out), a picture of the current Bravo 10. The dinghy has B7 valves.
Whichever foot pump you'll use, Will need a valve adapter between air valve 7 and foot pump hose.
Will need to remove pump's front fitting and insert valve adapter. Your current air valve has rounded inside non threaded wall right ? Avon's pressure gauges are expensive, more cost effective will be buying a Bravo 4 Alu hand pump with a pressure gauge along a valve adapter.
