August 21-23, Formulas owners from the tri-state area came together to have our annual Jersey Rendezvous. This year was special for Formula Owners of New Jersey because this was our first year incorporating a fundraiser/charity along with our Rendezvous. We had many great sponsors to let us plan a full day of entertainment 11am-10pm, gourmet food trucks serving us great grub, an amazing spread at the catered dinner sponsored by the guys at Comstock Yacht Sales & Marina, even the Ice Cream Shop of Manahawkin came and chipped in by serving their homemade ice cream and fresh hot donuts!
The boy Tyler, who is battling Dravet Syndrome, was on hand along with his family to share the eventful day with us. Tyler's first boat ride ever...... 2016 Formula 350SS. His second..... 2016 Formula 330CBR! Thanks to Comstock for getting the family and other attendees out on their new boats for a nice ride on the Metedeconk. Despite a handful of last minute cancellations due to mechanical and personal issues we had a total of 15 Formulas and 1 Sea-Ray which is also a charter boat, NY Harbor Boat Charters, who came down from the Hudson River area early Saturday morning to help us support the cause. John and Bethany towed down from Massachusetts with their 1985 302SR1 Kaama, which was an awesome boat to see running.
As a group we raised $8,000 which was handed directly to Tyler and his parents towards the end of the night.
Sunday August 23rd, some said their goodbyes to head back to their home ports from all over but a group of 6 from the group headed over to F-Cove for a Sunday Funday hangout in the cove. Along the way Time Sharkey from Sharkey-Images was able to capture some great shots of the Formulas heading out.
I must say I have never been around a group of people with such class. The generosity had me choked up when I announced our accomplishment and at that point BOTB 2015 was a success. We partied, we laughed, we surpassed goals, and we enjoyed our Formulas.
