We drove 315 miles each way from our home port of Lake Granby, CO up to the Utah/Wyoming border to do a boat camping trip to Faming Gorge Reservoir. FG is billed as a more scenic, less crowded Lake Powell - seems fitting. It was spectacular. Though FG is some 91 miles long, we stayed on the southern Utah side as it had incredible scenery, calm waters, great fishing, watersports, camping, and good support services. Canyon rock walls varied from 100' to over 200' high with plenty of coves and leeward fingers. Water temps were between 68-71 degrees F with lovely clear water. We put in at Sheep Canyon boat ramp and boated 2 miles to Hideout Campground. Hideout had trex docks, 18 sites with covered tables/fire rings/tent pads, plus flush toilets. Highly recommended. Will go back to chase the elusive 50 lb Mackinaw record, and would be happy just boating and camping Flaming Gorge.

Looks like a great trip!

Hideout campground... Is that a boat-in only campground, or does it have road access? Lake side campground and having the dock 100' away, you can't get much better than that, I'm jealous :)
