Hello all I'm a new member and bought this old sea king boat motor and trailer last summer. Only reason I bought it is to restore and pull behind my '57 Chrysler. I'm looking for information on what year and model it is. Believe the engine is '58 gale sea king 35. I blew out fuel lines, cleaned up the carb, put new plugs in, new gas mixed at 50:1 and it started up in 3 pulls. I now need a key for the ignition and a throttle cable. I have it wired to a push button to start without the key and the throttle cable is pretty much shot and only gives half throttle at the most. Thanks for any info about this.

Check to confirm for a 1958 Gale, but I think its recommended to use 24:1 not 50:1 gas~oil mix in 50s OMC engines.

Check Fiberglassics.com library for possible models of Sea King.

Good luck

Since you have it wired with a push button start do you really need a key?...It's a great looking boat!!....

Interesting hull design there. What are your plans to restore it?

Looks like what a bunch of us used to call the Plymouth Savoy boat, it is definitely a classic late 50's style boat.

Gm280... Plans are to fix the cracks in the glass and repaint/gel coat it the same colors as my 57 Chrysler. I'll probably paint the trailer to match as well.

Yes,.. You definitely need to run it richer than 50:1. As kbcurt said, 24:1 is what it was built for.

Nice boat & engine, you'll have a lot of fun with her.

Just curious what engine is in the Chrysler. 361, 383, or hemi? Even with such a light boat you probably will need helper spring rear shocks. I had a '71 with the 361. There was a lot of trunk behind the axle and the car appeared ass heavy to start. It will, however, tow that boat as if it wasn't even there.

BTW: Look up Flipping Boats by a company called Boats Have Souls. They did a resto on one very similar to yours.

The Chrysler has a 354 poly with 4bl also have sky jacker air shocks in the rear. I'll have to look at that resto, I'm new to fiberglass restoration. I've laid glass on a cobra kit car but never a boat.

I suggest putting a new water pump kit or at the least a new impeller in it. Very cool boat and motor.

Okay Floatin-Fins, I like your idea(s) and equally like the car. I can see those two matched and looking great together. Make sure you take tons of pictures along the way and post them on here for us to see and assist you with your project. I will watch for sure. :thumb:

An outboard with magneto ignition needs to be grounded out to shut the engine off. There are specific ignition switches that ground the ignition wire when the key is in the off position, your average ignition switch disconnects it from a positive wire.
