I bought a 2002 Sx 170. I can't see anywhere on the outside of the hull with a VEC badge. From what I have seen I believe it should be a VEC hull. Any help or ideas of where to look. I don't get to see it till I travel back on Saturday to pick up. It's got a 135 Johnson outboard with 54 hours showing. Pretty excited to upgrade from the 1974 Larson shark.

I read that Larson and Glastron were sister companies for a while, before Larson was bought and the VEC technology went with Larson. I don't know the years, but I can tell you my '97 Larson was built with engineered stingers and bulkheads. If Larson and Glastron were still linked in 2002' I'd bet Glastrons were built with the same technology. A bit of web research might reveal the answer...

Good luck!

So I finally got ahold of Glastron. The guy was helpful. He said they have some info still on the Glastron boats before they bought Glastron. Said they really are two separate companies and they do not cover the VEC lifetime warranty anyways.

He did inform me that Glastron Outboards were not VEC hulls. I am not sure if this is just for the 2002 year or all years.
Anyways just passing on the info given to me

FWIW, I have a 2007 Glastron with the VEC Hull.....and lifetime warranty.......but here's the catch when I talked to a dealer. Shortly after the VEC hulls came out, the Glastron division had financial difficulties and ended up filing bankruptcy. As a result, the "new" Glastron company isn't responsible for the VEC hull warranty. No one is. So, I have a VEC hull with a lifetime warranty that means nothing. You might be better off without VEC.

Now is VEC better or worse, who knows. That debate is all over the net.
