A 1979 model should have a HIN displayed on the outside starboard side of the transom and/or possibly a plate affixed somewhere inside the hull. The first three alpha characters of a HIN is called the Manufacturers Identification Code (MIC) and will help you find out who built that boat. The link below will take you to the USCG-maintained MIC database. Good luck!

Um, Bonicraft does.....
Bonicraft

ABOS Blue Book lists them as well

Unless you meant as a division of a larger parent manufacturer, like Brunswick and all the boat brands under their umbrella....... Then yep, going to need the HIN...

The HIN number should also be on the title and registration........

Why do you need maker info?

is the 140 I/O Mercruiser or OMC?

if the 140 I/O is OMC, I highly recommend you pass on the boat anyway.

'79 OMC shouldn't be a Cobra. Should be a Hydro-Mechanical Stringer.

which is harder to get parts for than the '85+ cobra's. at least with the cobra, you can swap to an SEI drive if needed.
