I heard from a dealer that the Raymarine auto pilots are no good on outboard boats. Under way they are slow to learn their position and make radical changes resulting in an unstable S pattern line. I am interested in the new ST8001 S1G Hydraulic Outboard Pack with their new advanced steering technology. I think the dealer was trying to sell me the simrad unit for 3k while I can get the raymarine for 1500!! Does anyone have any info on these units and how they perform??? Thanks in advance..Dal

Raymarine will do fine for you unless you want to take a cruise to New Zealand with 29 footer boat... My opinion.

I've got the Sportpilot +.......
I know it's a much different unit than you're looking at,
But, After I got all the sensers hooked up,+ Tuned.....
It does very good.... Above 6mph........
At Trolling speeds, it'll wander......
If the wind Blows, it Can't keep up........

I love it for moving from 1 fishing grounds to another.....
