I installed a windshield.

So my boat is an '87 Marlin Aries with a Black Max 200hp 2 stroke outboard. After playing with a few different props, I got it hitting 55mph on GPS and really loving it. But my lady wasn't, so we talked about adding a windshield. Since my boat didn't come with one, that left a lot of options. The issue was the size and shape of my boat and the fact that is wasn't designed to have a full walk through windshield.

So after taking a lot of measurements and looking at different boats, I started my search. After about 2 months, I finally found one not to far away for $75 on craigs list. With a little engineering, I was able to make it fit. I used 1/4" stainless carriage bolts that I modified to fit in the Taylormade channel on the underside of the windshield. The wood mounts in the picture are temp just to make sure I have the angles correct. After finally getting it mounted up, I tested it Saturday and it works awesome.

I still need to do some fiberglass finish work with the final mounts to tie it into the boat. But it looks pretty damn good and it works. :D

I drilled slightly oversized holes and used rubber bushings for all 8 mount points. I have large stainless washers and lock nuts on the back side to prevent stress cracking. Once I get it all tied in, it should look real nice. Total cost was just over $100 with all the stainless hardware and the cost of the windshield. Not a bad deal, I think.

Great job, it looks like it belongs there. That's a good idea on the rubber bushings, I'm hoping to install my windshield sometime this fall and was wondering what to do, so thanks for the idea!

Thanks. I was playing with a few different fiberglass finishing options and I think I have it figured out. I hope to get it all mocked up and glassed in the next week or so. I'll post up some finished pics. I'm really happy with the looks. It lines up pretty well and think it will look OE once it's all cleaned up. I am painting the frame satin black, should be cool.
