Almost bit off more than we could handle.

About 5 weeks ago the wife and I went to a IRS auction for a 2001 Cobalt 226. That was the easy part. It was raining like crazy, and we were the only ones who attended. They had a minimum 9700.00 Bid. This boat could not have looked uglier. It sat in storage for 3 years, was full of pine needles and dirt. I could see one exhaust manifold was cracked, the skeg bent and the duo-props bent. If it wasn't a Cobalt I would have walked away. Got it home and the wife cleaned it and reupholstered the swim deck,The engine was toast, so we bought a new one for 2100.00 . Bellows 60.00, gimbal bearing 40.00, 2 batteries 140.00, prop repaired 240.00,skeg repaired 250.00, and a new trailer surge brake control 140.00. Wife say's were about 5000.00 with the new Sunbrella travel covers. That puts us close to 15000.00 for the boat, but it cleaned up so good and the upholstery looks fantastic. I have the boat I always wanted, with a 5.7 Fuel injected Volvo Duo-prop.
Today I repacked all the trailer bearings, and we are both excited to test it . This was a big project for us, but the result was well worth it. My wife is a fantastic seamstress, and she bails me out of a lot of projects. I will try to post pictures later. Dave -R

Sounds like a fun project. Eager to see the pics. The best part is that you clearly know the boat inside and out now and can tackle any issues in the future.

Way to go Dave, and kudos to you and the admiral for working together so well. Many couples who otherwise get along well can't do that.

Thats great! Cobalt is a very good boat and that particular boat if really clean probably retails for $19000 plus...Hope you really enjoy it and it makes memories for you and your family. :)

Well played, congrats, and enjoy.

I'm in well beyond that for a smaller version and would do it again, gladly.

Pics please.
