Hi,
I Have a 1995 4 winns sundowner with a 5.0 omc/volvo setup. My question is behind the steering wheel there is a housing that used to occasionally drip fluid and now it doesn't. I started to hear a sweaking sound when turning. Am I supposed to fill that housing with fluid? The pump on the engine has fluid. I'm new to I/o's and any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi Mike, welcome to iboats!:) To help get an idea of your steering helm design, would you be able to try and post a photo?

If there is a fluid housing behind the steering wheel, you most likely have a hydraulic steering system and yes, fluid is necessary in that housing. But pictures are always great!

It could just be grease leaking out of a rotary helm too but no way to know without you looking under the dash and either taking a pic or finding one like it to post a link to.

Here are a few pics.I didn't see any fill holes in the housing. I greased the two shafts at the back behind the motor and now it works perfect.
