anchoring bilge pump to deck

I have a tracker targa that needs a new(second) automatic bilge pump.It would go beside the replacement manual pump put in by the last owner. Question is in order to keep the pump upright it has to sit on the aluminum hull. Is there a glue to fasten a mounting plate to aluminum that is not affected by water. Has someone solved this problem in the past?

Re: anchoring bilge pump to deck

welcome to iboats.

Get a 5x5" piece of aluminum, attach bilge pump to aluminum with either screws or rivets.
Pop rivet the sheet of aluminum to a rib in the bilge.
This keeps the pump from clogging up from any debris that may be in the bilge, and secures the pump, yet it is removable for service or replacement.

Several of my aluminum boats have the same set up.

You could glue it down with some 3m 5200, but you would never get it out again.

Good advice...a couple of sheet metal screws into a rib will have no influence on the strength of that rib, many new alum boats come that way from the factory. Never glue to an alum boat, leaves a real mess if you ever have to remove it.

Thanks Roscoe-will give it a try. I have the top deck off and am contemplating how many cuts I will get working thru that tiny access hole:lol:

cover all the edges with tape to prevent cuts.
