I have a 89 Bayliner capri 1950 with a 2.3L omc/ford with a cobra sterndrive. Can any one tell me what the speed should be on this boat. The GPS on my phone said 27mph. That was wide open. I want to know if that is good or do i have a prob. Thanks...

That is probably about right for that boat, considering its age and that it was underpowered to start with.

My 1980 Century 190 w/ 3.0L hit 35 mph tops. Usually around 32 at WOT. You could try playing with the trim some to see if you can squeeze out another mph or two. Sound about right though. Conditions can affect speed significantly.

Are you trimming the drive up at WOT till the prop starts to slip, then trim down just enough so it catches again. That's how to get the highest speed out of your boat. Watch your tach, & speedometer for this.
