Engine hatch lift helpers?

The new boat I bought has a big sunpad and the electric motor must have quit on the previous owner as it is removed but the wires/ switch are still present.
This hatch is heavy, 2 handed job. Should I seek out a replacement electric lift to make things OEM? or does someone offer an assist type bolt in rod that can be locked in the open position as a replacement? (similar to a screen door mechanism).

Pictures... You should be able to find a gas assist lift strut that should work for the job.

both Suspa and Stabilis make gas assist struts

or get a replacment actuator.

Bennett even has hydraulic trim pumps with a hatch actuation circuit if you wanted hydraulic.
