Bronze or plastic transducer?
I seem to be getting conflicting information about the use of plastic transducers on wooden hulls, some say use bronze because the plastic might crack as the wood swells/moves, others have never heard this before. Bronze Furuno transducers are much more expensive than plastic - what should I do ?
I have fiberglass 26ft inboard boat.

Is this a thru hull or a shoot thru the hull type where you epoxy it in the boat? If it's the latter use plastic. Why would the use of wood come into the question when you have fiberglass?

Well, yes,a plastic transducer housing can break when used in that applacation. If in glass it should be fine. Now if you have a cored hull, you have to get rid of the core material, then fill with epoxy, then drill to proper size for the housing.

I wouldn't mount anything plastic below the water line. Far too much risk of damage.

I have an Airmar B164 in the bottom of my boat.
