Cutting a hole for storage in cuddy cabin structure

I have a 1995 Sterling 19` cuddy cabin. Down below the structure appears to be like most cuddy cabins of that era with a sealed triangular fiberglass box.
I am looking into the idea of cutting access holes to increase storage in this “box” that the cushions rest on then reinforcing the hole if needed for hull stability.
Has anyone done this? Is there something I need to know before cutting a hole? I thought of cutting a small hole first and using a boroscope to peek and assess what can be done.
Ideas?

It's probably filled with flotation foam.

If I had the need, a drill and a bore scope? I would drill the pilot hole and see what was in there. Might be your lucky day?
