I am from Minnesota so I have been around lakes and boats my whole life. I am new however to these forums and have spend a few days searching through old posts where I learned a lot of new information.

I am consider purchasing a 1984 Starcraft Aluminum Roundabout (pictures below) and the seller doesn't have a lot of info so I figured I would ask the experts for some help:

Can anyone identify the exact model of this boat?
(I believe it measures 15'6" but am not sure of what model it is.)

Can anyone help estimate the weight of this boat and it's load capacity?

Are there any typical issues that I should be aware with this make/model/year?

Any estimates on how this boat will perform with a 35 hp engine?
(Looking for max speed)

Does anyone know what the max hp engine I could put on this boat would be?
(I am afraid that 35hp won't be enough to pull a tube or skier which I may want to do a few times a year.)

Any other information that you might have to share would be very much appreciated, thank you so much for your help!

That is a 16' SuperSport. Max HP rating is 90HP. It will perform pretty poorly with a 35. Will pull a tube (boringly) but forget about skiing. I'd consider 50HP to be minimum and 70HP pretty much ideal. Great boat though. If you can acquire it cheaply enough, you could sell the 35 and upgrade to a 50+ with probably not too much cash out of pocket. Not sure what the overall package weighs, between 1000 and 1500 I'd think. I pulled my 16' Starcraft with a FWD car pretty easily. It will handle 5 or 6 adults if they aren't all 250 pounders.

Thanks for the quick reply and great info... one question about the model. I don't see a 1984 "Supersport" listed on any websites that sell manuals and such. These are the common model that I see listed for that year:

160 SPORTSMAN BR - 15'
160 SPORTSMAN BR SPECIAL - 15'
170 ADVENTURER - 16'
170 ADVENTURER SPECIAL - 16'
170 FISH N SKI - 16'
170 FISHERMAN - 16'

Are there dual names for this model or should I keep looking for Supersport?

Also would anyone be willing to suggest an offer price? The seller wants me to make an offer and I am not really sure where a good place to start is as everything is great shape but I can't water test the hull because they need it out before spring. I was thinking $2,500 but is that too much for a 25 year old boat/motor?

Thanks again for all of your help.

They had more consistent naming in the 70's and earlier which is what most of us Starcraft nuts on this site are more familiar with. A bowrider like that was pretty much always called an SS. I have seen them also called number like S165 or something. Once they started making them with varying fishing equipment options that's probably when different names for essentially the same hulls started happening. $2500 is probably fair for a water ready boat. However, with a fairly inadequate motor, I don't think I'd want to pay over $2k.

Not sure if you've noticed but this site is a hotbed of aluminum Starcraft enthusiasts. Head down to the Starcraft section for a bit http://forums.iboats.com/Starcraft_Boats?boatid=243

I bought my old 16' for $200, rehabbed it and sold it 5 years later for $2000 http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/Boat Project/DSCF1923.jpg I bought my 18' for $1000 with no interior and an untested motor. Turned it into this: http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/IMG_1134-2-1.jpg

Model? Well at first I was thinking SuperSport as well but...

When I look at that second photo I can't help but wonder if that bow has been cut out? The picture is kinda small but it looks squared to me? If that's the case, Holiday maybe? I could be totally wrong though.

As for a fair offer - sooooooo much depends on the condition of the transom and deck in my opinion. If you have rot, that means lots of rebuilding, so I'd say $1000ish. If you can hop in and go for boat rides today, $2000ish tops.

She is a great looking little rig!

I think we're just out of our element jason when it comes to these "newer" :D boats.

Here's a know 160ss (as in super-sport) project and it's pretty darn similar http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=531753

Hi rowles80.

The boat you're looking at could be the SS 160. In the mid 80's Starcraft started naming differently so SuperSport became SS XXX. Even more frustrating is some models began life as aluminum, were switched to fiberglass and in some rare cases returned to aluminum construction. That's the confusion in the Starcraft world.

She's not going to be a speed demon with 35 hp.

Does the seller have an asking price? She appears to be in decent shape in pics. Have you looked at the boat personally?

Here is a page out of the 1982 brochure (don't have 1984) in the Starcraft section EZ linked to above. Looks like in the '86 brochures naming changed again.

Seeing what GA posted there, disregard my comment...

GA has ya covered there:)

With that 35, $1000 tops, then plan on replacing the motor.

It MIGHT plane, with 2 people, will be terribly slow. Doubt it will pull a tube, but will pull a wooden saucer/disk.

My family had 2 of these (in succession) when I was growing up. Had 55's on them IIRC and they were great for us as teenagers waterskiing with 4 people aboard. I also took it out in some rough open water--not a good idea but it handled it if you knew what you were doing.
Trailered it with the family station wagon and sedans no problem.

You should be able to sell that 35; it's a popular motor. Also, from the picture, it looks like that motor, a long shaft, is too long for that transom?
