I just got my hands on a 88/89 bayliner 2455, so far its been great, but I might have got extremely lucky. I guess my advice would be to do a very detailed inspection of the boat, in fact it would probably in your best interest to have a professional look at it and advise you from there.

I'm still somewhat new to this site and I have absolutely zero experience with ocean boating, but I know that opens up a whole other can of worms, so proceed with caution.

Bayliner = Bay boating. No way I'd be out in anything more than 1-2's in a Bayliner, and that's only if I got caught off guard. Keep shopping, IMHO.

We had an '89 Capri, was a decent beginners boat. The asking price might be a bit high, we paid that 5 years ago for ours but only got $1500 for it last year when we moved up. Floor was spongy and the stringers were probably shot, sold as a project.

1989?

If it were garage kept, and the owner was incredibly diligent, it could be nice to putter around in (coves, sounds, peaceful bays). Personally, I think you're up against incredible odds.

A newer boat will cost you less, because the cost of aggravation and ownership of an old, likely rotting, mechanically risky Bayliner will be hard to fathom.

Keep looking if you want an ocean boat. The market is flooded with good boats right now. This is not one of them. Good luck.

welcome to iboats gorilla

personally.....I put my bayliner bashing stick away a long time ago.

in this case.....due to the fact its an 89....I would also suggest to seek a good marine surveyor......it could save you a world of hurt down the line.

Before you buy all the Bayliner bashing BS, which Capri cuddy are you talking about...the 17', 19' or 21'? Also, what do you mean by ocean use? Coastal cruising or long runs out in the ocean for fishing? I agree with the comment about 1989 being an OMC, which can be a problem. OMC has been out of business for several years and some parts are getting hard to find. If you are worried about the condition of the boat, by all means seek the help of a pro and get a survey before putting out your money. Speaking in relative terms, if the Bayliner you are looking at is the 21', 2152 model, it weighs about 500 lbs. less than your Wellcraft, but has an 8' beam, instead of your 8 1/2' beam. Concerning the price, that's up to the two parties in the transaction. These days, everything is negotiable.

Good luck,
PB

Based on the information provided, it is impossible to give an accurate estimate of what this boat should cost. The size of the engine alone could make many thousands of dollars of difference.
