Hey all, I bought a 1997 Bayliner 2050 about 8 years ago with a bimini top and a convertible top. I have always only used the bimini top, but decided this year I want to do a little fishing in the winter. I busted out the convertible top which has been sitting in my shed for the last 8 years to find its not complete. All I have for it is two poles and the canvas piece that snaps to the front windows. Does anyone out there have the same top and could send me some pics or something of how its supposed to go. I want to buy the rest of the parts to get this thing up and working. If someone has a picture or even better, if they know what parts I need to buy, I would greatly appreciate it. Here are some pictures of my issue, if I need some more pics of something let me know. Thanks.

I wish I could figure out how to post the pictures in the post, but I cant, but here are the links.

It should have come with some short straight bars to mate with your curved top pieces. You may want to see if a canvas shop carries something that might work. I know my old 87 2150 Bayliner had the same setup.

Looks like we may have the same boat. Mine is already covered for winter. Here is a link that has some pics that may help: http://www.canadalake.org/OurBoatGallery.html

Looks like you are missing all the plastic end pieces.

I haven't had to purchase those parts. There may be some "universal" parts that fit, but could call Baylinder just to see what they cost.

parts manual can be found here: http://www.baylinercustomercare.com/manuals_index.html

He has a different rear top. Yours is a slant back. His is a camper top.

Looking at your boat was a little eery. It looks exactly the same. Mine has the same convertible top, but I dont have the back piece that zips in and covers the entire boat. Where on your boat does the convertible top attach? It looks like its inside of the windows, which is weird because there is nothing on mine in there. I wonder where the rest of the poles and stuff for my boat are. Does anyone know where I can buy the right size poles etc?

Given Bruce's comment not sure they are the same.

Each pole is pinned. Canvas just snaps to the top of the windows.

My Canvas snaps onto the front of the windows and it looks exactly the same as your front piece. Mine ends right at the back of the back-back seats and has a Zipper where it would zip into the second part. I can see on my window now where it looks like it would connect to the top. What kind of connection do you have on the window that the poles go up from. I wonder if I just call bayliner if they have the replacement parts. Does anyone else out there have a picture of this same convertible top, or know the pieces that connect to it?

I can try to gets some close-up pics this weekend.

The pieces that go in the end of the rods look like these:

And they fit into a fitting that bolts to window frame and boat, that looks like this:http://www.iboats.com/Convertible-T...8516030--**********.040206615--view_id.168020

Please note: I didn't size these, just found something sim that you can get a better understanding.

I'm not familiar with Bayliners, but is it possible that some pieces of the Bimini frame are also used for the convertible frame? I thought that if both tops were from the factory that they might use some of the same hardware.

Go to a canvas shop. They will give you the best advice.

You can call bayliner but the boat is so long out of production, extremely unlikely they have your missing poles.

This is perfect. Now all I need to do is find the poles that went from the top down. Its not the same as the bimini top, because the bimini top was not factory and connects in a different spot. Called Bayliner and like Bruce said, they dont have anything. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone else have the convertible top for their bayliner that they dont use, or the canvas ripped and are willing to sell me the poles? Thanks

Now I am cornfused! Maybe you do have the setup like John has. The top you are trying to resurrect is for the front or the back or both?

I will have to take some better pictures of it. Its looks exactly the same as Johns, except that it does not have the camper part in back. It has the zipper and snaps where I could buy the whole camper enclosure. I am not sure what you call that part. Anyways yeah, its just a matter of finding the poles that connect to the boat and to the poles that are on the convertible top.

Does your current bimini have zippers on it? If it does, I would have side curtains made to fit that.

Does your convertible top that you are trying to resurrect have its clear side curtains still?

Re: 1997 Bayliner 2050 Convertible Top Repair

I contacted Leta's Top Shop and ordered the poles, they called them braces. Hopefully the right thing will arrive, they seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. Here are some more pictures of the convertible top. I am trying to hold it up and take the picture at the same time, so it was a little difficult.

The poles you need are not called braces. Hopefully you get what you need.

Re: 1997 Bayliner 2050 Convertible Top Repair

In pic #3, that looks like the end of the rod. If so, that is not the rod that goes through the back of the convertible top. It may be the one that folds forward.

I didn't get pictures, but here are some lengths:

- Main Bow Height: approx 28" (this attaches to window and goes through sewn in space at the back of the canvas)

- Forward Swinging Bow Height: Approx 15" (folds forward to support canvas. Black straps adjust to stop forward movement)

- Back Brace Length: Approx 19" (Braces are usually the short straight peices that support the main bow)

- Tubing External Diameter: 0.84"

Re: 1997 Bayliner 2050 Convertible Top Repair

I am as confused as ever now. I will lay down each piece and take pics of everything and hopefully you can let me know what goes where. Do you think that the braces are just going to be the piece that goes from the poles to a second place on the boat to "brace" the poles? I have some straps that I think went to the original one, so I assume the straps are what was used to brace the poles. I guess I will find out when those parts get here if they are the right thing or not.

John, do you think that the two poles that I have for the top of the canvas are even the right piece? Are your poles one solid pole that goes all the way through the canvas and out the other side? If so, then I think that I have the wrong poles. It wouldn't make sense, but dang it, this sucks. Thanks for all your help.

I can't really tell from the pictures. Lay the convertable top on the ground, bottom side up. Put all the pieces you have in the picture.

The bows go the width (beam) of the boat. They may be segmented and screwed together, though. I've never taken mine apart.
