I kindof like the Starcraft 21" center console curious about this 1982 models transome (organe boat) compared to a 1987 model.

both the 1982 & 1987 model are outbroad type motors.

first what type of transome is each referred to as, besides the obveious what are the advantiges and dissavantages of each type?

Thanks STB

The main disadvantage to the bracket mounted engine would be in high seas, especially following, the farther the engine is from the pivot point of the boat, the more of a "dunking" it gets. Additionally, the bracket has to be tough enough to support the weight and thrust of the engine and that adds weight to the boat that the conventional transom with splash well doesn't.

I'll take the orange boat......but a paint job would be the first order of business for me.

Hello Mark
so the organe boat transome is referred to as a conventionale splash guard type?
and the 87 model is a bracket mounted engine ?

about how much additionally weight is the bracket mounted engine ? (was this boat initially made this way) I really like the extra 2" of inside deck room on the bracket mounted engine.

Mark so you are saying that a bracket mounted engine is mounted farther out than the splash transome and leveragering the weight moreso than the splash type?

I'm also thinking that w/ the braket mount the fuel tank will be on deck space? and the live well will be in front of the center console?

Edit: the hull of this boat is 900Lbs the majority of this boat I see has relativily small motors usalley less than 100HP I entend on the max HP of 140HP and then use my old boats 25HP tiller as a trolling motor, your thoughts on that ? w/ a tiller motor locked stationary will I be able to steer w/ moving the steering wheel during trolling?
Thanks STB

I remember Lone Star boats of the '50-60's. You can probably pick up some sales brochure info on here in the boat by mfgr listing at the end of the forum listings. They had an alum. cabin cruiser of about 20-24' and had a really nice bracket they fabricated out of alum that was strong yet light weight. The bracket has to be far enough behind the transom such that the engine can be tilted to the full up position and not strike the transom.

Still the problems I mentioned existed. If you have a sealed powerhead engine, which most are nowadays...except for air inlets at the top of the cowl so that the engine can breathe (run) then it probably wouldn't matter.

These boats were easily powered. I recall a 20' with a solid top that had an old (white colored...'65 era) Merc 700 on it and I remember a trip I was involved in whereby the boat (someone elses) hauled a half dozen of us and camping gear from point A to B at a really nice clip. So as most know, alum is easily powered.

You figure out where you are going to locate the internal goodies.

Mark I saw this boat here at I boats it's a Starcraft islander I believe it was orginally an inboard outboard converted to outboard, also I think this boat is used in Pennsocalo, FL (saltwater).

the braket appears to be constructed out of stamped steel I'm thinking the painted braket won't last exposed to saltwater?

Mark are you negative about the braket type mount because of the possability of water entering the engine air intake?

also when doing a conversion like this will the gill plate be totally waterproof?
