Hi, I am new to boat and looking at an ad on CL for a boat and this portion of the prop is concern me. Giving me a newbie, can you tell me if this is bad and how much to put in a new prop. This on on Sea Ray with Merc I/O.

I would not run the boat with that prop. It could damage the lower unit. As far as cost, we would have to know what prop is on there now. What pitch it is. It should have it stamped on the prop. Then you can go on line and price that prop. Stainless steel props are expensive.

I'd be more concerned about all of the damage to the inside of the outdrive. You don't do that much damage to a stainless prop without breaking other things.

Agreed. Maybe that's why it's on CL...

Prop on my skeeter looks like that. PO did a lot of fishing around oyster shoals. Boat came with 3 props (all SS) and they all have some damage. Haven't noticed any problems with the lower unit at all and I've run it WOT quite a bit crossing lake moultrie. Make him take you out on a test ride and check for abnormal sounds/vibrations. If you're serious and like it check the lower unit oil for any metal or water contamination.

......unless my 'ol eyes are deceiving me, there's quite a bit of the skeg missing as well as the prop damage. 'Sum body's been doing quite a bit of agricultural boating with that poor Mercruiser.
I would insist upon an inspection by a certified Marine Tech before closing any deal.

i think the skeg is all there, it just has the paint scraped off and is the same color as the concrete behind it.

That prop does have some chunks missing though!

I'm not 100% certain which outdrive you are looking at but I believe it's an Alfa One.
Take a look at this and compare the skeg configuration.

I would never buy a boat from someone that's treats theirs like that!

That boat will bring a new meaning to "buying someone else's problems"!
