how do you disconect the steering cable so you can put one in on a johnson outboard

Hello all, I am new to this site if I am posting in the wrong place i am sorry I hope I am giveing enough info so you will be able to help me if you need more info please let me know.I bought a new drum steering box andI am haveing trouble getting the the connector off the old cable that hooks to the front of the mortor. It is a johnsons 70 horsepower 1976 mortor what is the trick to get it undone

Normally those are quick-disconnect type connectors. You might post a picture. Cable steering should only have one spring, on a larger motor like yours.
