Does anyone know the weight of a 16 foot 1973 starcraft aluminum boat? I am thinking about getting one but don't want to exceed the 1,000 towing limit on my car.

Motor and trailer, if I am right, will prrobably weigh about 600 pounds. There is also gas and gear weight.

I fear the boat may be too heavy.

Welcome to iboats.

Unless you carry ALOT of stuff I really don't think you are going to go over 1000lbs with a jon,I woudl say, boat is 200 trailer 300 and engine 120 leaving you a good amount for gear.

I think you are fine.

I have a 1990 15.5 ft LOWE with a 40HP Evinrude that weighed in at just over 1000 pounds including the trailer. This is an all aluminum bass style boat on a steel trailer. Since then I have added a trolling motor and a spare group D31M battery. Don't know how this compares to your system, but this may give you some idea. By the way, I pulled this with a Caravan (3.0 Liter) that was rated for 1000 pounds, but you definately knew it was back there when accelerating. Stopping was fine. (The same vehicle with a bigger motor was rated for 1500 pounds.)
