On an outboard boat, where's the best or most common place to put the name of your boat? sides I'd imagine, but front or middle or back?

I've got a stern drive but I placed the boat's name on both sides of the hull near the middle.

i don't know the answer to the question. but i can say that the fwd half of the sides is reserved for registration numbers only. at least per nebraska boating rules..
No numbers and letters other than the registration numbers, letters and validation stickers shall be displayed on any mechanically-powered boat on either side of the forward half of the vessel.
wherever ya put them. i'd check to see that your in compliance with the rules in your state.

Mine is in my avatar because that si where it woudl fit on my boat, the other side has all my drains in it so the port side is the only place I could get it so there si not set location, depends on your boat.
