I have a 1969 Dixie that I have been restoring over the years. Does anyone have a trick on removing pits in aluminum? The windshield has minor pitting in it's frame and I would like to work on it without removing it from the boat.

Since "pits" are just that you can't remove them you would either have to fill them in or sand down the surrounding area to match, if you have enough material available.

You could do what I did, if removal is an option. Take the frame to a Powder Coater. They will sandblast the frame, weld in any cracks or large damaged areas, and then "paint" it whatever color you want, including chrome or an anodize appearing finish.

I did mine in white and it looked really neat. Sorry no pictures available.

This process also helps protect the surface and reduce the likely hood of having to do it again.
