SyTen Helm Pump Leak

The boat I am refurbing came with a Syten hydraulic steering pump. The steering works fine except that there is a leak out the shaft that the wheel mounts on. Not only was fluid getting everywhere, but a full days use required fluid to be refilled. After finding out that there is not support or repair parts for this pump, the standard repair is to replace the system.

I pulled the helm, GOT LUCKY, and actually repaired the leak. Here is a brief explanation.
