Re: Bayliner ,can i fish on bay?

Why would anybody be afraid to take a 19 footer out on a bay? I take my 19' Wellcraft to the Bahamas, just gotta watch the weather and make sure you have good equiptment on board. BTW we do the Bahama crossing with a buddy boat. Sometimes it helps to have another boat along until you get comfortable.

Sometimes it isn't the length of the boat, but the boat design. I think this is one of those times.

Exactly. I used to take this 17 footer out on the Chesapeake without worries. LOL :D

Its too much money and also there are to many boats out there to be nitpicking at one.. just walk away.. Buying a boat should take you at least a few weeks.. once you find a boat you think you must have then go look at 5 more and see if you feel the same way.. 7,000 will buy you a lot of boat.. also you should consider broadening your range to look for one as well.

i found these in a few min,im not saying buy one of these im just showing you that there are other boats out there..

If you offered a deposit while you took it to a boat mechanic and he refused I would not get boat. Also a surveyor should go to the boat and check it out for you. Again if owner refuses to allow it then he can keep his boat in my opinion.

This is really a buyers market the way economy is and if you put a deposit down unless he has boat stored far from water why would he not want to do a sea test?

You can certainly start boat with hose in garage, check the engine tilt up and down and see if it moves with steering but sea tests are the norm.

If the owner does not want to allow a Marine inspection run away. He is hiding something.

Re: Bayliner ,can i fish on bay?

if you're in Harrisburg you're near me, I'm in Berks County.

i just went through it all and ended up with a dual console boat, part inshore fishing boat and part fun. like you, my wife wasn't warm to the idea of a center console but don't put CCs aside just yet. there are some that are pretty comfy with pads and all so i'd continue to look at them. if the bay will be your most frequent choice of water get something with good deadrise and weight. the last thing you want to do is get a boat that you can't use unless the conditions are perfect. one problem though, towing a boat like that will probably take something bigger than an older Pathfinder.

do your research and keep looking - buying a boat isn't an impulse purchase. don't buy anything a seller isn't willing to seatrial or allow survey. there are tons of boats out there and prices are very negotiable. if I had a $7k budget I'd be looking up to $9k at least. don't be afraid to drive a couple of states away either - I went to CT for mine.

post any question you have right here. it's amazing how helpful people here are and how much knowledge they have. they'll also set you straight when/if you need it! good luck.

Re: Bayliner ,can i fish on bay?

You can crusie in a fishing boat but you can't fish in a cruising boat. All the living room furniture (cushions, carpet, tunes) just deteriorate esp. in salt. Your wifwe will be happier in a safe, stable dry boat and a seat cushion under her butt than a smelly swamping cruising boat.
My prejudices are obvious. But in my spare time I'm more of a waterman than a golfer.

Re: Bayliner ,can i fish on bay?

just my opinion here so don't be offended...

way too much data. you aren't going to get too much help - people aren't going to pick the boat for you.

my advice is to do legwork on your own and get your list down to a few. go look at them, run them, research and read, then come back with details and specific questions.

Re: Bayliner ,can i fish on bay?

My vote goes to 2001,20' Center Console, Palm Beach, Model 205 -with a 150 hp Mercury Saltwater Edition engine $7500... Assuming the boat is in appropriate condition.. If you were not interested in a ski boat or anything then i would go with the 18' with the 90hp..
