We are negotiating to trade our boat in on a new boat. Seems there are a few great deals out there. I'm looking for information on rack storage vs. wet slips. We were always trailer boaters, but trying to decide if we should buy without the trailer and use a dry storage or a wet slip. We have decided to leave the boat at one lake and trying to decide what is the best way to do that.

Rack storage is the way to go if you can get to the boat when you want to use it. Keeps the bottom of you boat so much nicer.

dry is probably cleaner.. but wet you can just show up and go .. you dont have to wait for them to get it out and put it in.. and probably don't have to worry about them moving it all the time

You'll hear pros and cons for each. IMO it's a personal decision.
FWIW, a trailer always makes a boat more versatile. If your new boat is trailerable it's a good thing to have.

I enjoy a wet slip for the following reasons:
- boat is always available instantly for a cruise.
- my dockmates are like neighbors- and I enjoy their company.
- I don't have to stow everything 100% when I go home.
- I have the option to stay at the dock and still enjoy the boat- like on a stormy day (it's a cabin boat).
- no launch ramp or rack headaches or problems.
- I always sleep like a baby when onboard!

Of course, there's some downsides to keeping it wet:
- potential bad weather issues.
- constant exposure to the sun.
- additional canvas covers needed for protection.
- potential for leaking thru-hulls (but I ALWAYS shut mine when leaving the boat).
- bottom growth and maintenance.
- increased theft potential.

Here you'd be better racking a boat, not sure about your location.
