Does winter rack storage stress a hull? I considering leaving my boat on the manufacture supplied custom trailer, covered outside vs covered rack storage. But the rack supports are just two 18" wood rails at the stern and a carpeted I-beam under the front keel. It is rack stored for four months during the season but I wonder about all year like that.

It should be fine. I keep my boat on a lift in the water 8 months a year, and the lift has the exact same setup you're describing (most lifts do). 4 months shouldn't do much harm.

I have always thought that most rack storage places have inadequate support or they support the boat unevenly and could cause a hook to develop in the hull. The custom trailer from the manufacturer would probably support the boat better but if the hull looks fine right now then I would not worry about it. A lot of people have boat lifts with supports like you described so they must be adequate, I just prefer a little more support for my boat.

I have been in rack storage since 1996, so far no problems. I rack year round.
