Was looking to buy a used boat that has some old bottom paint on it. I wanted to remove the paint and leave the bottom unpainted since I was going to keep the boat on a trailer. Is this possible without messing up the bottom or gelcoat?

Thanks, Ron

4wheeler,

Not really, once painted it is very difficult to remove it and have the gel coat look original.

Alot depends on what type was applied. Do you have any idea?

No matter what you do to remove the bottom paint even commercial sand blasting. It will always look ____-. Isuggest that you do a really good pressure wash while using scotch pads (a dirty Job) no matter. then repaint over the old, using rollers to apply. It will still have bottom paint, but it won't look that bad & should last a few years.

Thanks Westender.
I have the same problem. After pressure washing the bottom (70% removal) I was not looking forward to the sanding task.

I'll give it a try as well.
