I saw at least one member who has done this but they haven't been active in a few years so I can't ask them. There is not much space on the gunnels so I am looking for pictures from people who have done it so that I can replicate it for myself.

Best picture I can come up with for now, and its not a Bayliner....but...

I have a 3-piece taffrail. One piece is across the stern and one piece on each side. They mount on a side deck and only take up a couple inches. My downriggers are bolted to a 10" x 60" x 1" piece of stained and varnished oak. The board is mounted to the side rails with detachable rail mounts. Easy on and off and requires no drilling holes in the deck.
