Is one type of all around stern light better than the other

So I have two stern lights currently. Thinking of sending one back, but want to ensure it would not be a better style before I do. The new one I have is a perko and it is kind of flat and the light is visible from the sides. (Kind of the shape of a UFO). The other one I have is just a light ball. Is there any advantage to using one over the other?

Thanks!

Assuming this is on a small boat, runabout, where the light shins inside the boat when it use.
Both so far as folks seeing you should be about the same. The difference is what effect they have on you. I also have both, the all around gives me more glare so it effects my eyes. The narrow beam light has less glare for me when I look around while driving.

I was going to say the same thing. Flying saucer preferred over the glare from the unbaffled light.
