Sorry for the newbie question, I searched for days but no luck. I bought it used without any documents, Just to make sure this is a 2 stroke engine. ?? It does have 4 sparks but I cannot find the service manual or any online instruction. Please advice if it's a 2 or 4 stroke.
This is engine 90hp is slightly larger than my boat's designed hp, if it is old and compression test is lower does it mean I lost some power and it's ok to fit the boat better/safer. Thanks!

It's a 2 stroke.

Since we don't know what boat you have or the recommended HP for it, there's no way to say whether it would be "safe". But if it's an old boat it may not be safe with any size motor due to rotten wood.

Defo a 2 stroke....
Pretty easy to tell. It won't have a sump or dipstick.
50/1 mix will see you right.

Thanks for the quick reply. This is a great boating forum. I run it for about 3mins using just gas without oil mix, hope this won't hurt the engine too much. The boat is 1979 60hp 15ft, fibreglass not bad condition. Can I just make sure easy control with less throttle so it's safe? Thanks!

well, maybe, maybe not, your decision - not ours.

It would actually be illegal in some places, like in Wisconsin, and a few other states.

And a 90 hp weighs 120# more than a 60 hp.
