Stupid Question: What is this hardware thing on the side of my boat?

I have this deck boat that is new to me. What is this thing used for on the side of my boat? Thanks for the education.

interesting, looks like its on the outside. If it were the other way, pointing down I would think a tie down for a winter cover but its not. You got me, lol.

Ayuh,.... Exactly,... Same fender clips as I've got on my barge,....

There's a plastic thingy that ya tie the fender to, that slips into that bracket,...

light duty fender holder.Ball type attachment gets tied onto the fender rope/string and snaps into your "hardware"

I thought it might be some type of fender clip but thought it would not be substantial enough for an over night fender. But a "light duty" makes sense. I don't suppose anybody knows what the ball type attachment is called so I can look into ordering some? Thanks for your information.

Yep its for a fender. I was wondering the same thing for our boat until one day we found a freely floating fender with this little circle thing and we realized it fit into it!
