Welcome to iboats.

Looks to be pre-1972, before HIN (hull id numbers) were in use.

So a 60's vintage 14', probably 750# total capacity, which includes the motor, gas, gear, and people.

9.9 or maybe 15 hp.

15 would be a good choice. Used to run that boat with a 10 because of the weight of the engine using it on rental boats and having to haul it from my car's trunk to the boat and back. It was a bit weak. A 25 would be the max tiller controlled. Had a friend with an Alumacraft 14' with side console steering and an old Johnson 33 hp of the vintage of your current engine and it would fly.

The motor on it is a later 50s Johnson 15HP from the looks of it. The medallion on the side of the cowling typically had the HP on it, but I can't read it certainly. I think Roscoe's tracking right on the dating - earlier 60s - and HP. How does it run on the OB that's on it?

Welcome aboard.

15 is probably the tops on it then. Those Johnsons are fun - cool lookin' and if you take care of them, pretty reliable.

No way!!! I have a 15hp on my 10 ft Zodiac which is only about 100lbs. A 14 ft aluminum can surely handle more than 15hp

Not on most narrow vintage 14ftr Charlie. I'd bet your 10ft Zodiac is wider then my last 14ftr. Probably not my current 1960 Larson 14ftr, but its still only rated for an 18hp.

^^^ Yup. Apples and oranges.

We've got a couple of 14' rowboat style boats. One is rated for about 10HP and the other is rated for about 15HP. We tossed a 25HP on the one rated for 15 one time ... took it up to speed once, turned around and putted back in. Lesson learned.

Hulls are designed to work in particular ways.
