2017 How Much Have You Spent On Your Boat Year To Date

I tracked my boating expenses last year. I had never tracked boating related expenses before. It was somewhat interesting to see what I spent on my hobby. Last year I was somewhat limited by my daughters wedding expenses. Hopefully this year I will have more boat bucks to spend on fuel and I can go to a few more places. Hope there are no further repairs but it is a 36 year old boat so we'll see.

I'm going to try it again this year. I am already half way to my last years total and I am about 60 days from launch. I should be getting my invoice for my summer dockage later this month. That will bump up the total a bit.

My spending has started early this year with my transmission repair and such. The marina where I wintered has billed me for all services performed since I paid my winter storage bill last October.

My expenses so far in 2017 are as follows:

Winterize Engine Humbug Marina----------------------------------------290.00
Oil & Filter Change Humbug Marina-------------------------------------164.00
Winterize A/C System Humbug Marina----------------------------------40.00
Shrinkwrap Humbug Marina ---------------------------------------------370.00
Misc Mechanical Parts Humbug Marina-----------------------------------69.30
Transmission Rebuild Humbug Marina----------------------------------2355.18

Just slip rent, gas and registration. About 550-600 bucks.

I track my expenses pretty well on a spreadsheet. Assuming I spread last year's bottom job over 5 years, my costs are about $9000 per year.

Not year-to-date, but this is what I've spent to bed it down for the winter

Hire hauler to transport and block the boat in my driveway $180
Shrinkwrap $270
Winterize 2 engines (self) $40.
Winterize fresh water, head and A/C systems (self) $12
Oil and filter changes 2 engines (self) $70.
R & R both outdrives (self) $30.00 for gaskets.
Replace water pumps (incl. housing and wear plate) and oil seal (sits beneath the water pump) on both drives (self) $150.
Replace gear lube both drives (self) $20.

So, roughly $770.

Is any of that for your Cobalt?

Mine is in storage for the winter....so winterizing I think maybe was $300 I don't recall exactly and indoor storage will be between $500 and $600ish if I recall. I need to get a swing tongue added for the boat to fit in my garage which was estimated at a minimum of $500 but I simply ran out of time to have it done.

Looked it up in the dictionary. Boat:~noun~A hole in the water you throw money at. B.O.A.T.: Break Out Another Thousand. The happiest day owning a boat is the day you buy it. The saddest is the day you sell it. So far other than some gasoline and new running lights on the trailer, I have been lucky. Less than $100 total.

You got part of that backwards, it goes the happiest day of owning a boat is the day you sell it. Another BOAT acronym is Bankruptcy On A Trailer.

I don't know about all of you guys, but I sure don't want to know what I spent last year! I didn't keep track for that very reason but I would guess I spent between $1500-2000.

So far for this year I've only accumulated $200 for winter storage. Still need to buy 2 batteries and replace 32 rollers on my trailer though, and whatever else comes up.

my slip and insurance runs 1000 and i allow 500 per year for maintenance, gas and oil is 300 or so and then what ever breaks so i allow 2000 per year

my cost to date is around 10,000 for a full rebuild and 2000 a year for the last 6 years 12,000, so around 22,000

I just bought the boat near the end of last season, and now the boat is in storage for the winter, wrapped up tight in the yard at our lake house. Storage=free :)

I have been slowly collecting parts for a refresh once the weather breaks. Things I found after using it a few times after I bought it, and want to change.

Re-sealed outdrive
New bellows
LED light bar and 4 smaller fishing lights
new switch panel, wiring
SI fish finder w/GPS
Livewell parts
Removing the pedestal seats and adding a leaning post.

I will likely pull and replace the drive belts as well, no idea when the last time they were off and changed.

Oh yeah, 2017 Insurance: $353.00

I think this post should continue and be sticky for the new fellas (and chicas) that want advice on owning a boat (bankruptcy on a trailer<-- I like that)...this way they will get s smattering of fees/costs associated with ownership. The fees are somewhat diverse, but are a reality of owning a boat. Not as a deterrent, but as an eye-opener.

Picked up my Glastron by trading a guitar I had purchased for $150. Have another $40 in paint and carpet adhesive, and another $50 in a water impeller kit. Not too bad so far. Sea trial this weekend, and we'll see what else breaks.

I don't want to know but have a good idea what it is after I look at my boating account every month. Between shrinkwrap, slip, DIY spring tune up plus small stuff I am going to say $1100.00 before fuel. Slip is only $550.00 and believe me you get what you pay for. New tackle I don't need is around $300.00 a season. Plus fuel which is a tank every 3 weeks. I don't know what that costs I close my eyes and pay it.
