Crazy idea: replace front seatback on small CC with soft horseshoe buoy?

Cushions on my 17' CC are not exactly trashed yet, but will need eventual replacing. Wise swingback cushions and the Igloo cooler-top front seat cushion look easily enough replaceable...but the front cooler seat back, attached to the front of the console with snaps and a vinyl/plastic "rail", looks to be manufacturer specific.

Got the crazy idea to replace that front seatback instead with a soft horseshoe buoy. I guess, mounted up with three or four wrap-around velcro straps (not a steel bracket!). I figure, kill two birds with one stone, right? Have a readily-accessible type IV throwable and something of a seatback for those rare occasions that someone actually sits up front.

Any reason I should not do this? Will the buoy get "compacted" and not work right if used as an occasional seatback?

A "Jim Bouy" horseshoe type IV is not soft. They are a very stiff (think almost hard) type of foam. I don't see them being much of anything you would want to use as a 'cushion'. (I have two of them.)
