I have a 1996 Monterey 230 Explorer deck boat. Solid and still full of life. But it is time for a face lift. Want to have all the seats recovered but cant figure out how to remove the seat backs. Please help!! For the sake of the old girl, she wants to look pretty again!!

You will probably have to move the bottom cushions crawl into the storage area and reach up to find the nuts holding them on.

Agree with 89retta; bolts/nuts are behind, so if you have access, need to feel for them. I removed my seat backs and they are bolted on to the backing of the seats using a t-nut. interestingly, they used stainless bolts & fender washers, but zinc t-bolts, so most were rusted to heck.

If you carefully pull the seat back out and look down behind it. If it is bolted on there won't be much (if any) give. If it is pressed in with Christmas tree pins you'll be able to see the plastic pin. A sharp pull is all that is required to remove that kind.
